This is a classic example of how to be in the picture, without actually entirely being ‘in’ the picture.
As you can see, there is a brunette pony tailed person stranding infront of a slender model, poised with her Mason Pearson hairbrush. That’s me. To my left is my dear friend, and extremely talented makeup artist, Georgi Sandev, we are both assistants and props on this shoot.
The back story is that Georgi and I had just returned from a vacation in Thailand. I stayed for a month, and Georgi joined me for a couple of weeks. We trained at a real Thai kickboxing camp. Called Patong Boxing Gym. My trainer, called ‘Man’, would put his foot on my back and push down if I stopped doing press ups.
I was working for Didier Malige this day, and he was helpfully calling out advice like ‘float like a butterfly’ and ‘move your feet!’, as we were shooting. I was horrified, because I realized they were really going to shoot my backside.
Still, what could I say? And I was glad to see that in the end they put a picture of a pro-athlete where they did.
